About Us
The Banksia Park Concert Bands was formed by a group of local residents in 1974. Based at the Banksia Park Primary School the band was initially comprised of primary school students who commenced training in the first term of 1975. The first concert given by the fledging band was on 14th November of that year.
By the middle of 1976 the program had grown to over 90 musicians and a second band was formed. The following year the 'Training' band began and in 1979 Banksia Park was crowned SA Champion Concert Band.
In 1983 the program organized the inaugural Adelaide Band Festival. Over the years the program has kept apace of the growing needs of the community and today boasts a total of six individual bands catering for all age groups and musical abilities.
The day-to-day runing of the program is invested in the Management Committee, which has an executive of the president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. Add to this group are elected representatives from the bands. The musical directors of each band are ex-officio members of the Management Committee.
